What is Best Doctors?

Best Doctors is a health benefit that provides you with access to the best medical minds in the world. It is offered by your employer or health plan to bring you the best possible medical advice so that you can make medical decisions with confidence.

What services are available?

Best Doctors offers a number of services to ensure that you get the best available medical information.

Do members pay to use Best Doctors?

No. Best Doctors is either included in an employee benefits package at no charge or is part of the member’s health insurance policy. The cost for any tests and treatment options recommended by a Best Doctors Expert are not paid by Best Doctors. Payment of those costs will depend on the terms of a member’s health insurance coverage..

What types of diagnoses qualify for Best Doctors services?

Best Doctors provides services for a wide range of medical conditions. They can include everything from sports injuries and pregnancy complications to chronic diseases and life-threatening illnesses.

Do I have to travel or collect my own medical records?

No. You contact Best Doctors and we’ll handle everything for you. All your contact with Best Doctors is over the phone or online. You do not need to travel or contact your doctor(s) to obtain records, images or other information related to your case.

Who are the expert physicians with whom Best Doctors works?

Best Doctors experts are selected from the Best Doctors in America® List. The Best Doctors in America List is our proprietary database that includes the world’s top medical specialists. Physicians are selected to be on this list only after being nominated via our poll, in which physicians are asked, “If you or a loved one needed a physician in a given specialty, to whom would you refer?” Physicians cannot pay to be included on the Best Doctors in America® List or nominate themselves for consideration. This list includes more than 50,000 physicians worldwide  in more than 450 medical specialties and subspecialties.

If I use Best Doctors services, does that mean Best Doctors is now my treating physician?

No. Best Doctors provides medical information only and not medical care, diagnosis, or treatment. You will not be a patient of Best Doctors or of any Best Doctor Expert that reviews your case. No doctor-patient relationship will be created between you and Best Doctors or you and a Best Doctors Expert. Your treating physician maintains all responsibility for your care and all treatment decisions will be made solely between you and your treating physician.

Do I have to follow the Best Doctors recommendation?

No. Best Doctors is providing you with this information so that you can bring it to your treating physician and work with him or her to make informed decisions regarding your diagnosis and/or treatment plan.

Does Best Doctors share information about my case and how will Best Doctors maintain my privacy?

Best Doctors is committed to protecting the privacy of every individual who uses our services. We comply with all relevant state, national and international laws and regulations including the U.S. Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996, known as HIPAA. Unless permitted or required by law, your medical information will not be shared without your  consent. On occasion, we may use de-identified information to help us improve the Best Doctors programs.
